Krishna : One name. One presence.
And yet, a thousand ways of belonging to Him.
At different stages of life, I find myself yearning for a different Krishna.
Sometimes, I yearn for Him like Radha did, as a lover yearns for her beloved,
for there is a woman within me who longs to know
what it feels like to be loved by Krishna.
Sometimes, I yearn for Him like Rukmini did, as a wife yearns for her husband,
for the quiet companionship of a shared life, for a love that is chosen, lived,
and held through every season.
Sometimes, I yearn for Him like Draupadi did, as a sakha, the friend who needs no explanation,
the one I can call upon with nothing but a whisper of the heart,
knowing He will understand.
Sometimes, my motherly heart awakens, and I yearn for the Kanha of Yashoda
the little one with mischievous eyes,
the naughty child I would want to hold, scold,
and love endlessly.
And then, beneath all these versions of me, there is my soul.
The quietest, truest part of who I am.
And that soul does not ask Him
to be a lover, a husband, a friend, or a child.
It asks Him to be my Saarthi.
A Saarthi…to sit beside me in the Kurukshetra of my life,
to hold the reins when I lose my way,
to steady me when the battlefield feels too loud,
and to remind me, once again, who I am.
Perhaps that is Krishna’s beauty. He remains one.
And yet, He becomes exactly who my heart needs Him to be.
